Coventry Welsh Rugby Club claimed a valuable 2 points against a Birmingham Exiles side who are beginning to find some form after a poor start to the season. The Welsh started brightly but fell behind to an early penalty. After some sustained pressure the Welsh were finally rewarded when Ryan Hughes glided through the defence to score an outstanding try. The Exiles replied with a try from nothing as they kicked down field and were on hand as the ball bounced favourably into the chasers hands. Down 8-5 at the turnaround the Welsh struggled to find any rhythm to their play until a defence splitting run from Liam Horan resulted in a 5m lineout. From this position the Welsh drove over for Mark Ellis to touch down. The Welsh began to take control in the set pieces but some dogged defence held them out until a series of pick and drives by the forwards saw Matt Carrier crash over for a try. As the game wore on both sides defences held firm but the Welsh were guilty of some indiscipline and the Exiles cashed in with a quickly taken penalty resulting in a well taken try. As the final whistle blew the Welsh knew that some games are best forgotten about and that a win is a win at the end of the day.
