Coventry Welsh rugby club began the season with a resounding win over Copeswood RFC. With the forwards dominating in the set piece and loose play the Welsh took control of the game from the start. Midway through the first half saw the Copeswood scrum under pressure and from the disruption Stuart Baker pounced to score under the posts. The Welsh put some excellent phases together from the re start and with the forwards and backs linking well the gaps appeared for Ryan Hughes to weave his way through for another fine try. The half ended with flanker Paul Neal sprinting from the 25 m line as he popped up on the wing to take the telling pass for another try. All were converted by Luke Horan.

The second half saw Copeswood RFC up their game and score a breakaway try. This stirred the Welsh and they began to apply more pressure with pinpoint touch kicks from Luke Horan and quickly taken penalties when given the opportunity. With the backs having more freedom their passing and movement led to No8 Matt Carrier getting the space he needed and he took the chances well to score a hat trick of tries.Luke Horan converted one with brother Liam Horan adding a further two as the Welsh went on to a deserved win.
