Coventry Welsh progressed to the next round of the Junior Vase with a hard fought win over a tenacious Tenbury side. The strong wind and lashing rain made it difficult to play any free flowing rugby but to their credit both sides attempted to run the ball whenever the chance arose. The Welsh opened the scoring with a well struck penalty from Luke Horan but Tenbury hit back with a good try from their No.8 which was converted. Tenbury added a penalty to take a 10-3 lead. A turnover ball from the restart saw Matt Carrier crash through several tacklers on a 30m dash to the line for an excellent try duly converted by Luke Horan to level the scores at the break. The Welsh had the better of the second half and only some strong defence and basic handling errors kept the score down. A quick break from the backs saw the move finished off by Simon Stubbs who went over from short range for a try converted by Luke Horan. Tenbury replied with a penalty. The Welsh backs then conjured up two pieces of flowing play as quick hands opened up the defence for firstly Chris Neal then Chris Holman to score outstanding tries both converted by Luke Horan who then added a further penalty.
