Warwickshire 2nd XV Shield competition 2009-2010 Final.

Coventry Welsh 2nds won the Shield Final held at Keresley RFC with a battling display against previously unbeaten Manor Park. Manager Russ Brown`s tactic of taking the game to the Park from the kick off proved effective as the Welsh pack took control of the set pieces winning 4 against the head when under pressure. Both teams attempted to play a running game when given the chance but both sides defences were up to the task and only some last ditch tackling kept the score at 0-0 at half time. The second half saw the Park`s defence once more stop the Welsh on several occassions. Pressure told eventually and the Welsh took the lead with a well struck penalty from Russ Hughes. The Welsh played out the rest of the game with Captain Russell Hughes leading from the front in tackling and launching counter attacks when the opportunity arose to nullify anything the Manor Park side could muster. Relief and joy greeted the final whistle as , as one , the Welsh celebrated a well deserved victory.

Ryan Hughes has been nominated as this seasons Coventry Welsh Rugby Club captain. I am sure that you will all give Ryan the backing he needs in this vital role.

Coventry Welsh are playing Rolls Royce in the quarter finals of the Junior Vase competition on Saturday February 6th. K.O. will be at 2.00pm to allow for extra time if needed. Please try to be there to support the players and the club. Club will be open from 12.30 onwards. Could I ask you all to pass this message on to anyone who might be interested.
